Getting started

After installing the extension in a browser, an account will need to be created that will connect the different browsers.

Register an account

To create a new account, click on the Cache Nut icon in the browser’s toolbar, and click the “Create a new account” button. When prompted, provide a name that will identify this specific browser in the account. No personal identification is requested or required. After the account is created, the account details can be found by clicking on the application menu icon in the upper left corner, and selecting “Account” from the menu. Note the account id to be used in a later step to verify that your browsers are associated with the same account.

Connect another browser to an account

To connect another browser to the account to share data, an access code will need to be created from a browser that is already connected to the account (like the one above). To get an access code, click on the Cache Nut icon in the browser’s toolbar, and click on the application menu icon in the upper left corner, and selecting “Account” from the menu. In the account information page, click on the “Add a new device”, and an access code will be shown. This code is needed by the new browser to connect with the account.

In the other browser (the one to be connected), click on the Cache Nut icon in the browser’s toolbar, and click the “Connect to an account” button. Enter the access code and follow the instructions on both browsers to complete the connection. This will ensure that the browsers will be sharing the same account.

Once completed, the account id must be identical on both browsers, and can be verified in the account information page by clicking on the application menu icon in the upper left corner, and selecting “Account” from the menu. If the account id is the same in both browsers, then they have been successfully connected and data can be copy-pasted between the browsers.

The following data can be copied:

  • Text on page: highlight any text on a page, right-click on the text, and select “Copy text to Cache Nut” from the context menu.

  • Text from another application: if there is text in the system clipboard from another running application, the text can be copied by clicking on the Cache Nut icon in the browser’s toolbar, and click on the application menu icon in the upper left corner, and selecting “Copy clipboard content”. The system clipboard is not accessible on all browsers.

Paste data from Cache Nut

Any data copied to Cache Nut can be accessed from the history page by clicking on the Cache Nut icon in the browser’s toolbar. The items in the history page will be accessible for a limited time (30 minutes) before it is removed.
